Future of how people will purchase their cars will change with augmented and virtual reality with features being used to develop virtual showrooms
German Luxury car maker, Audi has recently launched an all new myAudi connect mobile application for “All things Audi”. This application is not just for the customers of Audi but for potential customers, fans and enthusiasts as well. This application has a sporty look and feel and a range of exciting features as well. Even though our focus in this article is about the augmented reality virtual showroom, it would be safe to say that this application has features like Audi club members, in-app merchandise, offers on audi concierge and car-life products, online help and support, service bookings which makes it highly functional.
“At Audi India, we have endeavored to make our existing suite of digital tech more user-friendly and all-encompassing in functionality. Our ‘myAudi Connect’ App first introduced in 2019 was very well received by customers and it gives me great joy to say that the latest development will help us serve our tech savvy customer even better.” says, Balbir Singh Dhillon, Head of Audi India.
Augmented reality technology allows one to augment text, pictures or videos in their actual reality using a mobile screen or an AR glass. In this case, we have the myAudi Connect mobile application acting as an interface between the user and the augmented reality. The myAudi connect app has used this technology quite brilliantly. The UI/UX and the whole experience is quite smooth. Many AR applications come with small glitches or restrict motion of the augmented object but this is not the case with this application.
Virtual showroom is quite comprehensive and detailed when it comes to vehicle information. You will find vehicle specifications, photos of interior and exterior, a video, an option of booking a test drive, downloading the brochure and viewing the vehicle 360 degrees in your own space. With this augmented reality feature you can put the desired Audi vehicle in your drive way, in your living room or even in the palm of your hand. The current virtual showroom has the models of Audi RS Q8, Audi RS 7 Sportback, Audi Q8, Audi A6, Audi A8 L. The augmented reality feature can be experienced via the mobile application or even by scanning the QR code available on the Audi website.
“New features such as in-app custom offers, AR and book a test drive function widen the scope of the app to prospective Audi customers. Digitalization is a journey, not destination and we will continue to upgrade our services for our Customers and fans going forward.” adds Dhillon.
Augmented Reality is becoming the talk of the town and the technology that will change how we interact with people and objects around us. Even though AR has wide spread applications in automotive industry, the current features that we see being rolled out by the car makers are more or less related to virtual showrooms. This comes across as a small gimmick to create engagement vie the immersive reality and generate social media conversations by sharing pictures.
The future however is bright as we will see applications like augmented reality vehicle navigational systems, driver assistance systems, AR car servicing guided manuals being rolled out.
